Conference Highlights

Dubai witnessed 300 strong women coming together and claiming their space in STEM domain on 15th January 2015 at Godolphin ballrooms, Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai.

Welcoming the participants, Meera Kaul, Chairperson of The Meera Kaul Foundation said, “Science, Technology, Engineering and Math is what the world Economy is going towards. Very soon there will not be any job for people who do not have Science, Technology and Engineering skills. Women in world over are lagging behind in embracing these career and more so in our region. There needs to be greater emphasis on bringing women into these careers and opportunities.” She also mentioned, “Women make up 26% of the workforce in Science, if women do not take active part and interest in being part of STEM revolution, they will fall out of race of being equal participant in the world economy.” Emphasising the importance of the WISTEM event, she said, “Women In STEM is our program to address this deficiency and create role models to build thriving careers for women in Science and Technology.”

In her key note address, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Raja Al Gurg, Managing Director of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group and Member of the Board at Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, challenged women not to limit themselves and said, “How far can we get? And what is the ceiling above our head. Are we exceeding that ceiling or stopping before and saying that it is full stop here and we cannot go beyond this. There is unlimited potential found amongst the women living in UAE and we must unlock it for the benefit of all”

Powerful speakers from the industry like Claudia Galvan, President, Society of Women Engineers, Silicon Valley, Anu Ancharya, CEO, Mapmygenome, Swapna Subramani, Senior Research Analyst at IDC. Hanan Saleh Ahemairy, Manager, RTA, Maryam Althani, Senior Manager- Corporate Partnership, DEWA, Rumbidzya Mlambo, Co-founder and Director, TechWomen Zimbabwe, Shukla Dutta, Abeer D Abu Ghaith, Chairperson, Skylinked, Sherifa Hady, Director Enterprise Group Distribution, Anna MM Vetticad. Journalist and Writer, Moza Shaiban Suwaidan, Director IT in Dubai Culture and Art Authority, Nermin Salah Ahmed, Maria Mozaffar, Founder skinless project, Satya Vadlamani, CMD Murli Krishna Pharma Pvt Ltd, Pragnya Wakhlu, Founder, Mousia India inspired the delegates with their presentations.

The three panel discussions highlighted critical issues on women entrepreneurship, raising capital and working with men.

The conference gave a platform to all the women to network and share.
